Subduction Red

Columbia Gorge, USA
Syncline Wine Cellars' signature red blend from Columbia Gorge fruit, made by James Mantone from Rhône varieties in one of the Pacific Northwest's most climatically complex zones. The Gorge's gradient from cool maritime to warm continental allows Syncline to source grenache, syrah, and mourvèdre from appropriate microclimates, producing a Rhône-inspired blend of unusual depth for the price. Syncline is the Gorge's benchmark producer for Southern Rhône style.

Grilled lamb chops and Syrah-dominant blends is a reliable pairing across multiple wine regions. Chimichurri's fresh herb, garlic, and acid bridges with the Syrah's herbal cracked pepper; feta's tangy salinity provides a contrast that refreshes the palate. Roasted pepper's sweet-smoky character echoes the Syrah's dark olive and smoke notes.

Roast chicken is the ultimate versatile pairing vehicle: it works with medium-bodied whites and light reds equally. The Subduction Red's soft tannin and plum character won't overwhelm the chicken's mild protein while the rosemary jus bridges the wine's herb notes.

The Subduction Red's dark cherry and herb-driven character finds resonance in the nuttiness of cave-aged Gruyère; dried apricot bridges the wine's natural fruit.

The Subduction Red's Syrah-Cabernet blend finds a natural aperitif partner in lamb meatballs; the tomato conserva's concentrated acidity echoes the wine's natural brightness while Pecorino amplifies its savouriness.

A blended red with accessible tannin is ideal for miso-braised preparations where the fermented note is the dominant flavour bridge. Soft tannin doesn't overwhelm the delicate umami complexity.
