Elkton Oregon

The northernmost and coolest sub-AVA of Southern Oregon, centred on the town of Elkton near the North Umpqua River's emergence from the Coast Range. More rainfall than the rest of Southern Oregon, cooler temperatures, and shallow soils over metamorphic bedrock create conditions suitable for early-ripening varieties: pinot noir, gewürztraminer, and riesling. Genuinely distinct from the warmer Rogue Valley profile.
