The Continent's Vastness: Why "African Food" Doesn't Exist

Africa contains 54 countries, over 3,000 ethnic groups, and at least as many distinct food traditions. Saying "African food" is as meaningless as saying "Asian food" — it erases the difference between Ethiopian berbere and Moroccan tagine, between Congolese moambe and South African braai, between Senegalese thiéboudienne and Kenyan nyama choma. The Provenance database must document African cuisines as distinct traditions, not as a single category. The continent is the most culinarily underrepresented region in any food database on Earth — not because it lacks culinary wealth but because Western food media has systematically ignored it.
