Guangxi Black Glutinous Rice Cake (Zi Mi Ba)
Guangxi Province — Zhuang and other minority traditions
Zi mi ba (紫米粑) — black glutinous rice cake — is a Guangxi minority festival food using black glutinous rice (zi mi), which contains anthocyanins giving it a dramatic deep purple-black colour. The rice is soaked, steamed with pandan leaf, then pounded and shaped into cakes or wrapped in leaves. A common offering during harvest festivals and ancestor veneration ceremonies.
