Southern Oregon

The broader umbrella for Oregon wine south of the Coast Fork of the Willamette River, encompassing a geologically diverse landscape of volcanic intrusions, metamorphic uplift, and ancient seabed. The climate transitions from cool maritime in the north (Elkton, Umpqua) to near-Mediterranean in the south (Rogue Valley, Applegate). Tempranillo, syrah, and cabernet sauvignon achieve genuine quality; the serpentine soils of the Applegate Valley produce some of the region's most compelling results.
