Antinori Tignanello

Tignanello created the Super Tuscan category in 1971 — the first time Sangiovese was blended with Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and aged in barrique rather than large oak. It was also the first commercial Chianti to eliminate white grapes. Today it remains the benchmark Super Tuscan: 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, from the Tignanello vineyard in Sant'Andrea in Percussina.
