The reputation — the story that sells at the table
Speri is considered the benchmark for traditional-style Valpolicella Classico — the Sant'Urbano Valpolicella Superiore and Amarone are rated 94-97 points and represent exceptional value in the appellation. James Suckling named Speri among Italy's most significant traditional producers.
Practice
One of Valpolicella's oldest family estates — the Speri family has farmed the Classico zone since 1874. The estate focuses on the Sant'Urbano single vineyard (Mezzane Valley, upper Classico zone), which produces both their flagship Amarone and Valpolicella Superiore. The philosophy is traditional: large Slavonian oak casks for Amarone, minimal intervention for the fresh wines.
