Ten to Chi
Philosophy
Ten to Chi (meaning 'Heaven and Earth') is a Hokkaido estate focused on indigenous and international varieties suited to the northern island's climate — Kerner, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Gris, and Zweigeltrebe are grown on the Tokachi plain at 100–200m altitude on well-drained volcanic loam. The estate emphasises sustainable viticulture and minimal winery intervention, producing wines that express Hokkaido's unique continental-maritime balance.
Reputation
Ten to Chi is considered Hokkaido's leading producer for white varieties — the Kerner is particularly praised by Japanese wine critics for demonstrating that Hokkaido's cool climate can produce aromatic whites of genuine complexity. Tim Atkin awarded 91 points to the estate's Pinot Gris on his most recent Japan visit.
