Arista Winery

United States
Minimal intervention in cellar; un-fined, un-filtered wines aged in French oak. Each vineyard site is preserved for its natural qualities rather than manipulated. Small-lot productions emphasize terroir expression and vintage specificity drawn from premier Russian River Valley and Anderson Valley sites.
Arista Winery emerged in 2002 from the vision of Al and Janis McWilliams, an orthodontist and his wife from Texarkana, Texas, who realized a long-held dream of establishing a wine estate in Sonoma County. Nestled on scenic Westside Road in Healdsburg, the 36-acre property sits at the heart of the Russian River Valley, one of California's premier cool-climate appellations for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
AllocationCRITICAL SUCCESSION TRANSITION: Arista Winery announced January 2026 it will close after 2024 vintage. Estate sold to Young's Holdings/Chris Underwood (Feb 2025, $25.35M), but McWilliams brothers initially planned to continue brand with simplified model. However, by January 2026, brothers decided to wind down entirely and focus on real estate development company. Production shifted from estate to contracted growers across Russian River Valley; estate vineyard (~10% of fruit) lost to new owner. No specific organic, biodynamic, SIP, or CCSW certifications located in searches despite strong sustainability commitment stated on website and by partner growers. No formal certification bodies identified. Winemaker Matt Courtney remained through final vintage. Wilson Daniels continues as distributor. Four Corners Wine UK importer confirmed. All acreage figures (36 acres, 10 acres planted, 9 acres Pinot Noir, 1 acre Chardonnay) cited consistently across multiple sources including Millesima and Four Corners. Production volume 6,000 cases annually confirmed by Wine Spectator. First commercial release 2003 (2009 Two Birds vintage released Fall 2011 per website). Entry is documenting a defunct producer at end of operational life; entry appropriate only if canon admits legacy/archive entries. | Importer overflow captured (importer_other): 'Southern Glaziers (Tennessee)'
