Bodegas Bernabeleva

Spain
Long macerations in wood with indigenous yeasts, minimal SO₂, aged in large neutral barrels and tinajas. Non-interventionist approach honours each parcel's singular character—granitic soils and altitude produce ethereal, mineral-driven Garnacha of uncommon freshness and floral precision.
In 1923, Dr. Vicente Álvarez-Villamil, a renowned Madrid physician, acquired land at the foot of the Sierra de Gredos where Celtic heritage spoke through ancient stone bears and Garnacha thrived on decomposed granite soils. After Civil War devastation halted his vision, his great-grandchildren Juan Diez Bulnes and Santiago Matallana Bulnes revived the project in 2006, enlisting consultant Raúl Pérez and winemaker Marc Isart to resurrect eighty-year-old vines.
AllocationVerified estate winery; 1923 founding date from primary source. Modern winery operation begins 2006 under Juan Bulnes leadership. Biodynamic certification confirmed since 2009 vintage (from White Horse Wine source). Current winemaker Miguel Chimeno succeeded Marc Isart Pinos in 2021 (Marc departed to his own project, Cinco Léguas). Production volume ~3,300 cases Camino de Navaherreros annually per Empire Wine source. US importer Polaner Selections confirmed across multiple retail & distributor listings. Website available. No UK or Japan importers identified in search results. Signature wines span blended (Camino, Navaherreros) and parcel-specific (Viña Bonita, Arroyo del Tórtolas, Carril del Rey). Portrait emphasises cool-climate Garnacha expression and mineral finesse vs. traditional warm-climate Mediterranean style. No major ambiguities detected; sourcing robust across wine press, retailer, and importer sites. | Importer overflow captured (importer_other): 'Bibendum Wine Co.
