Bonny Doon Vineyard
United States
Philosophy
Minimal intervention through indigenous yeast fermentation, extensive lees work, and restrained oak use. Wines fermented cool at low Brix, textured by mycorrhizal soils rather than technique, aiming for acoustic expression of terroir.
Reputation
Founded by Randall Grahm in 1983 in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Bonny Doon Vineyard emerged from initial ambitions to craft California Pinot Noir but evolved into a pioneering force for Rhône varieties on the Central Coast. After Pierce's disease destroyed original vineyards in 1994, Grahm refocused toward terroir expression over volume, abandoning mass-market brands in 2006 to pursue biodynamic viticulture and wines of place.
