Domaine Lafage

Roussillon, France
Gentle infusion techniques preserve fruit purity and freshness across diverse Roussillon micro-terroirs. Work with schist and calcareous soils spanning Mediterranean coast to Pyrenean foothills yields wines of mineral structure and natural elegance, guided by each plot's distinct exposure and elevation rather than uniform extraction.
Seven generations of Lafage vinegrowers rooted the family in Roussillon's sun-scorched lands along the Spanish frontier. Jean-Marc and Eliane, trained in oenology and tempered by harvests across South America, California, South Africa, and Australia, seized the family estate in 2001—thirty-six hectares spanning schist-rich Agly, coastal Perpignan, and elevated Les Aspres—to craft wines that taste unequivocally of place.
AllocationFamily history discrepancy: multiple sources cite six generations of grape-growing prior to Jean-Marc's domaine creation in 1996, making Jean-Marc the seventh generation winemaker. Founded year 1996 per Bibendum; estate takeover 2001. Mas Miraflors acquired 2006. Production volume estimated at 2.5 million bottles annually (per Neather article). Organic certification status complex: estate holding 85 ha in organic certification or conversion (Maury 20 ha, Le Crest 40 ha, Miraflors 25 ha) per own website. RVA certification achieved 2023 (one of first seven cellars globally per Drinks Business article). US importer identified as Third Leaf Wines (successor to European Cellars per merger announcement). UK importer Hallgarten & Novum Wines secured exclusive distribution January 2025. Winemaking history stated on Hallgarten site as dating to 1798 (family lineage, not formal domaine). No Japanese importer identified in sources.
