Domaine Pellé
Loire Valley, France
Philosophy
Grapes sorted, pressed gently, fermented on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel; whites aged on lees in tank, reds in foudres and Burgundy barrels for up to 12 months. Each wine expresses its terroir's Kimmeridgian foundation with precision and restraint.
Reputation
From the village of Morogues at the eastern edge of the Loire Valley, the Pellé family has tended vineyards since the late nineteenth century, selling wine casually to neighboring restaurants and brasseries in the early twentieth century. Henry Pellé, aware of the exceptional Kimmeridgian soils beneath his terroir, insisted the village's name appear on the appellation in 1959, establishing a reputation that would define the Menetou-Salon region itself.
