Domaine Verzier
Rhône Valley, France
Philosophy
Reds age twelve to fourteen months in oak barrels and demi-muids, whites fermented equally in stainless steel and oak. The domaine pursues authenticity through careful expression of granitic and schistous terroirs, balancing power with grace across classical northern Rhône varietals.
Reputation
The Verzier family has worked the slopes of the northern Rhône since 1828, though the domaine became fully devoted to viticulture only when Philippe Verzier, the youngest of seven children, took control at age nineteen in 1988, abandoning the ancestral polyculture to establish the house as an independent bottler. Today the family's 16.5 hectares stretch across the storied terraces of Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, and Collines Rhodaniennes in and around Chavanay, where the Madone d'Izeras watches over vineyards rooted in granitic, sandy, and schistous soils between 200 and 330 metres elevation.
