Domaine du Bagnol

Provence, France
Direct pressing under two hours; no filtration; stainless steel fermentation at controlled temperature to preserve salinity and mineral character. Moon-phase viticulture and manual labor. Classical music during fermentation. Uncompromising expression of limestone terroir and Mediterranean brine.
Established in 1857 by the Marquis de Fesques, Domaine du Bagnol takes its name from the quarter in which it sits, one of the oldest and first viticultural holdings in Cassis. Perched two hundred meters above the Mediterranean, beneath the imposing limestone escarpment of Cap Canaille, the estate commands a mesoclimate perfected by cooling winds from the north and northeast, and gentle sea breezes that define the salinity of Cassis's most celebrated whites and rosés.
AllocationFounding date shows minor discrepancy: 1857 vs. 1867 (formal trace). Ecocert certification shows two dates: 2014 (most common) vs. 2011 (one source). Producer describes practice as 'almost biodynamic' but no formal BD certification claimed. Vineyard holding: sources cite 7 hectares for rosé production or 'seven hectares estate' (1-hectare source), but Perrine's and Literally the World cite 17 total hectares (8 owned, 9 leased), which appears to be current total holdings. No direct producer website found; language assessment based on importer descriptions. Rosé blend percentages vary slightly across sources (45/35/20 vs 50/30/20); Rosenthal site (primary importer) lists 50/30/20. No production volume data available. Jean-Louis has daughter Lisa in addition to son Sébastien (per Rosenthal). Succession from Madame Lefevre (early 1990s) to Genovesi represents change from family to unrelated owner—now family-owned under Genovesi control since early 2000s.
