Domaine du Pegau
France
Philosophy
No destemming, whole-cluster fermentation with natural yeasts in concrete vats. Two years aging in old oak foudres (50 hectoliter capacity) with no fining or filtration. Cuvée Laurence receives extended aging of approximately 40 months total. The white wine parcels alone are farmed biodynamically.
Reputation
The Féraud family has cultivated vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since 1670, beginning as polyculture farmers of grapes, olives and cherries. Paul Féraud began estate bottling in 1964 from a 5-hectare parcel. In 1987, his daughter Laurence returned from her wine studies to formalize the family enterprise as Domaine du Pegau—named for an ancient terracotta wine jug discovered during 14th-century excavations of the Avignon papal palace.
