Philosophy
The other Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé A alongside Cheval Blanc. Built on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion — the highest and most mineral terroir in the appellation. Alain Vauthier's family runs the estate; he famously forced a reclassification of the Saint-Émilion system in 2012 when Ausone's ranking was perceived as inadequate. Only 7,000 bottles per year of the grand vin. The wines are unusually structured, mineral, and age-worthy for Right Bank — needing 20+ years to open.
