Philosophy
One of the great Rhône négociant-domaine houses, converting to biodynamics in 1991 — the first major Rhône producer to do so. Michel Chapoutier (the current generation) is a charismatic figure who has taken Chapoutier to Australia (Pyrenees) and Portugal. The single-vineyard Ermitage bottlings (Le Méal, L'Ermite, Le Pavillon) are produced in tiny quantities and aged without fining or filtration. The labels are written in both French and Braille — a personal commitment to accessibility.
