MacRostie Winery & Vineyards

Sonoma County, United States
One hundred fifty small fermentations per vintage, each vineyard determining its own expression before blending. Uncompromising work with fog-shrouded coastal sites—Wildcat Mountain, Nightwing, Thale's Estate—paired with relationships spanning thirty years with the region's finest growers: Duttons, Sangiacomos, Martinellis, Bacigalupis. Bright, mineral-driven structure defines both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Steve MacRostie began his winemaking journey in 1974 at Hacienda Winery during Sonoma County's pioneer era, when only forty small wineries existed and cool-climate Pinot Noir remained unproven. He established MacRostie in 1987, among the first to recognize the Sonoma Coast's maritime influence as ideal for elegant, structured wines—a vision that defined the region.
AllocationOwnership history requires note: MacRostie was sold to Lion Nathan USA (Australian company) in 2011, but current sources (2024–2025) refer to Steve MacRostie as founder/proprietor with daily operations under winemaker Heidi Bridenhagen (since 2013). Lion Nathan acquisition date and current corporate structure unclear from available sources; treated as family_owned given founder's continued public association and daily direction. No US importer identified in search results; appears to distribute direct and through regional networks. Certified sustainable (CCSW) since 2015. Production volume not disclosed. Vineyard acreage sparse in public materials. Considerable reputation among wine media and specialty retailers.
