Pateromichelakis
Crete, Greece
Philosophy
Twin brothers revived a dormant family legacy in 2005, pursuing deliberate constraint over yield. Multiple harvests from single vineyard parcels—up to three passes—select fruit at precise ripeness. Romeiko and Mavrotragano, indigenous Cretan varieties, anchor the house's work; stainless steel and neutral oak preserve acidity and terroir expression at 300 meters altitude overlooking the Aegean.
Reputation
The Pateromichelakis family settled in the hamlet of Merada around 1750, where their principal occupation has been cultivation of olives and vines on 5 hectares, all farmed organically. Twin brothers Yiannis and Manos decided in 2005 to revive the legacy and began experimental vinifications of Romeiko, the most significant indigenous grape variety of Chania prefecture, and Mavrotragano, a very important black variety of the Cyclades.
