Presqu'ile Winery
United States
Philosophy
Gravity-flow winery built into hillside, 110 feet vertical, creating a minimalist approach to handling fruit. Native yeast fermentations across up to 25 individual lots to preserve block and clone distinction; aged largely in neutral French oak with modest new oak. Consulting winemaker Jeremy Seysses (Domaine Dujac) since 2015 guides toward restrained extraction and extended phenolic ripeness over sugar.
Reputation
Established in 2007 by the Murphy family after an extensive West Coast search, Presqu'ile emerges from the hills of Santa Maria Valley as a deliberate answer to cool-climate viticulture. Named for a beloved family gathering place in Mississippi lost to Hurricane Katrina, the winery honors both place and memory through wines that emphasize restraint, mineral tension, and the particular spice of Pacific-facing terroir.
