Yacoubian-Hobbs
Vayots Dzor, Armenia
Philosophy
Low-input, largely organic farming with native Armenian varieties at extreme altitude. Modern winemaking technique applied to 6,000-year-old traditions; indigenous grapes harvested carefully, processed with minimal intervention to reveal volcanic mineral signature and place-driven purity. White and red cuvées express terroir of Vayots Dzor's high-altitude sites.
Reputation
Founded in 2008 through an unlikely partnership born of email and wine appreciation, Yacoubian-Hobbs unites visionary California winemaker Paul Hobbs with the Yacoubian family of Armenia in Vayots Dzor—a mineral-rich high-altitude plateau mere steps from the Areni-1 cave, site of the world's oldest proto-winery dated to 4,100 BC. The partnership honors Armenia's 6,000-year viticulture legacy while positioning it as a contemporary force.
