de Vescovi Ulzbach

Italy
Giulio de Vescovi harnesses the Teroldego in its indigenous terroir: selective hand-picking from dolomitic limestone soils of low fertility disciplines the grape's natural vigour. Pre-fermentative maceration and extended aging in French oak and unglazed cement produce wines of mineral precision and supple structure—a restrained expression of mountain fruit.
The de Vescovi family arrived in Mezzocorona during the mid-seventeenth century from the upper Val di Sole, drawn by the alluvial Noce River (Ulzbach in German) and the Piana Rotaliana's reputation for Teroldego. After half a century dormancy following the Second World War, Giulio de Vescovi revived winemaking in 2003 with training from the Istituto San Michele all'Adige and University of Florence, reclaiming both family heritage and the Austrian surname Ulzbach.
