Bruno Giacosa
Philosophy
Bruno Giacosa was the 'great traditionalist' of Piedmont — producing wines of extraordinary structure and longevity from owned and purchased vineyards. His Barolo Falletto (from his own Serralunga vineyard) and Barbaresco Santo Stefano (from Neive) are benchmarks for the traditional style: large Slavonian oak, extended maceration, no barrique. Giacosa was also a brilliant négoce buyer — his vintage purchases from top growers are legendary. He passed away in 2018; the estate continues.
Reputation
Giacosa Barolo Falletto Riserva (red label) is among the most coveted Italian wines. His négoce bottlings from the 1960s-80s are legendary collector items.
