Montevertine

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Italy
Montevertine was founded by Sergio Manetti in 1971 in Radda in Chianti. Manetti grew disillusioned with Chianti Classico DOCG regulations (which required white grapes in the blend) and withdrew from the appellation. Le Pergole Torte — 100% Sangiovese from a single vineyard — is classified as mere IGT Toscana but is widely considered Italy's greatest Sangiovese. His son Martino continues the estate.
Montevertine Le Pergole Torte is considered Italy's greatest Sangiovese expression. Despite IGT classification, it commands prices comparable to Brunello Riserva.
