The most celebrated name in Austrian wine — Franz Xaver Pichler established the Wachau's global reputation through extreme quality thresholds and iconic wines. Lucas Pichler (son) maintains the rigorous standard. The Smaragd tier ('M' designation on the label) represents perfection — only declassified in years when quality falls below the Pichler threshold. The Loibner Berg Riesling and the Dürnsteiner Kellerberg Grüner Veltliner are the estate's twin peaks. Pichler wines are difficult to source without a restaurant account — allocation is heavily oversubscribed.
