Philosophy
Mac Forbes produces the most vineyard-specific wines in the Yarra Valley — each bottling from a named sub-regional site (Woori Yallock, Hoddles Creek, Healesville, Yering) to demonstrate the dramatic terroir differences within this diverse valley. The approach — whole bunch, wild yeast, unfined — is purely Burgundian in philosophy, applied to Yarra's cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Reputation
Mac Forbes is considered Australia's most intellectually rigorous Pinot Noir producer — the sub-regional program has demonstrated that Yarra Valley's 30km east-west width contains dramatically different expressions. The Woori Yallock bottling is considered Yarra's most Vosne-Romanée-like expression.
