The reputation — the story that sells at the table
George Dickel No. 12 is the critical darling of Tennessee whisky — consistent 90+ scores from all major rating publications, and consistently cited by whisky experts as the superior quality alternative to the Jack Daniel's Black Label. A necessary inclusion in any serious spirits program.
Practice
George Dickel is Tennessee's oldest surviving distillery after Prohibition, established at Cascade Hollow in Tullahoma. The distillery uses the Lincoln County Process — charcoal mellowing in chill-filtered 40°F spirit — which they claim produces a smoother whisky (they spell it without the 'e'). The No. 12 Superior Grade is the flagship expression and Tennessee's most awarded whisky outside Jack Daniel's.
