Hermann J. Wiemer (trained at Germany's Bernkastel vine nursery) founded the estate that would define Finger Lakes Riesling as a world-class category. The estate's Magdalena Vineyard on Seneca Lake's west slope produces Riesling of extraordinary mineral precision, high natural acidity, and aging potential rivalling German Mosel. Fred Merwarth (winemaker since 2007) has maintained and elevated Wiemer's legacy — producing dry, off-dry, and late-harvest Riesling of remarkable consistency and complexity.
