Château Calon-Ségur
Philosophy
Château Calon-Ségur — the most northern of the Médoc classified growths — produces wines of extraordinary structure and longevity that transcend their Third Growth status. The estate's unique position on Saint-Estèphe's clay-limestone plateau produces wines with even more tannin and aging potential than neighbours Cos d'Estournel or Montrose. Famously the favourite estate of Marquis de Ségur (who owned Pétrus, Latour, and Mouton), the heart on the label ('My heart belongs to Calon') remains one of Bordeaux's most recognisable symbols. The 2012-onward era under new ownership has seen spectacular quality improvement.
Reputation
Calon-Ségur is one of the most historic and beloved châteaux in the Médoc. Recent vintages under the Capbern-Gasqueton/Suravenir ownership rank with the greatest Saint-Estèphes ever made.
