Domaine Michel Lafarge is Volnay's reference producer — an estate with roots in the 19th century that converted fully to biodynamics in 2000. Their 10-hectare Clos du Château des Ducs is a 1er Cru monopole of exceptional quality: walled, perfectly exposed, producing Volnay of extreme elegance and longevity. Frédéric Lafarge continues his father's tradition of minimal-intervention winemaking: indigenous yeasts, long gentle extraction, and minimal new oak.

Domaine Michel Lafarge is considered by Allen Meadows (Burghound) and Jasper Morris MW to be Volnay's essential producer — their Clos du Château des Ducs is rated alongside Premier Cru wines of significantly higher classification.
