André Perret
Philosophy
André Perret is one of Condrieu's most important producers — holding vines on both the principal Chéry hillside and the grand cru Côteau de Chéry. His 8-hectare estate is farmed with meticulous attention to old granite-terraced vines: his oldest Viognier vines are 50+ years. The Chéry single-vineyard wine is the estate's reference: whole-cluster pressed, fermented in old 500L demi-muids with indigenous yeasts, aged without malolactic fermentation to preserve the Viognier's extraordinary aromatic precision. The result is benchmark Condrieu: rich but fresh.
Reputation
André Perret's Chéry is considered by Wine Advocate (Neal Martin) and Jancis Robinson to be a Condrieu benchmark alongside Vernay's Coteau de Vernon. Consistently scoring 93-96, the wine demonstrates that Condrieu can achieve complexity alongside its celebrated aromatic power. The estate is considered essential for any serious Rhône collection.
