Domaine de la Chevalerie
Philosophy
Domaine de la Chevalerie is Bourgueil's oldest estate — the Caslot family have farmed their 30 hectares since 1640, making this one of Loire's most historic continuous domaines. Their Galichets is a pure graviers (gravel) cuvée from 60+ year old vines on Bourgueil's deepest alluvial gravel terroirs — producing wine of extraordinary mineral freshness and Cabernet Franc purity. Fully biodynamic since 2008, the estate's minimal intervention approach preserves the unique character of each of their 8 single-plot cuvées.
Reputation
Domaine de la Chevalerie is considered by Jancis Robinson and Loire wine specialist Jacky Blot to be one of Bourgueil's essential estates — their Galichets demonstrating that gravel-soil Bourgueil can achieve extraordinary mineral elegance rivalling Chinon's finest expressions. The estate's 380-year history in Bourgueil gives it unique authority as the appellation's most enduring fine wine producer.
