Aubert de Villaine's personal estate in Bouzeron — the co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti chose this overlooked Chalonnaise village as the location for his own wines. The Bouzeron Aligoté, the Rully Les Saint-Jacques, and the Mercurey Les Montots demonstrate what the Chalonnaise can achieve in the hands of Burgundy's most legendary winemaker. Practice

Planted by Benedictine monks of Cluny in the twelfth century, the Bouzeron vineyard lay dormant until 1971, when Aubert de Villaine—then co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti—and his American wife Pamela purchased the neglected estate to establish a personal domaine outside the Côte de Nuits. The village of Bouzeron, nestled in the tranquil Côte Chalonnaise between Rully and Santenay, became the unexpected stage for one man's singular crusade to restore dignity to the Aligoté grape.
