Reputation
One of the Mâconnais's most idiosyncratic and celebrated estates — Philippe and Chantal Valette produce Mâcon from very old Chardonnay vines (up to 80 years) on Solutré limestone, aged exclusively in old Burgundy barrels for extended periods without racking. The wines are distinctly Burgundian in style — textured, complex, and long-lived — challenging the perception of Mâcon as entry-level Burgundy. Their Mâcon-Chaintre and Pouilly-Fuissé are cult wines in informed circles.
