The most internationally celebrated producer in Villány — Attila Gere's estate has pioneered the concept of premium Hungarian Cabernet Franc and Merlot since the early 1990s, when he was among the first to demonstrate that Villány's limestone soils could produce wines competitive with the best of Bordeaux and Loire. The flagship Kopar cuvée (Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) is Hungary's most internationally recognised red wine and has changed the perception of Hungarian fine wine globally.
