Edi Simčič Kolos Brda

Brda, Slovenia
The prestige Merlot-dominant blend from Brda's most technically accomplished estate — Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from opoka (flysch marl) soils on the Slovenian-Italian border. The wine shows remarkable elegance and complexity: dark cherry, cedar, violet, fine tannins, and a mineral-earthy quality that reflects the flysch terroir. More refined and European in style than many Merlot-based wines, with genuine aging potential. Slovenia's most serious red wine.

Merlot-dominant Brda with braised veal — the wine's elegance and mineral refinement complement the delicate braised veal. Mushrooms bridge its earthy depth while tarragon gremolata adds fresh aromatic contrast.

The wine's dark cherry character mirrors the cherry reduction precisely. Duck's richness is balanced by Merlot's tannin and acidity while polenta provides earthy grounding.
