Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese

Mosel, Germany
The entry point to one of Germany's most celebrated single vineyards — the Wehlener Sonnenuhr, a carved slate sundial presiding over a south-facing amphitheatre of pure Devonian blue-grey slate above the Mosel river. Prüm's Spätlese is initially austere and reductive (sulphur is used liberally in winemaking); after 8–12 years it reveals the vineyard's signature: honeyed peach, wet slate, and developing TDN petroleum of extraordinary complexity. At ≥85° Oechsle with 60–90 g/L residual sugar balanced by 9–11 g/L acidity, this is a wine of 25-year cellaring potential from a reliable vintage.
