Bavaria — Reinheitsgebot

Bavaria is the homeland of the Reinheitsgebot (1516 Purity Law) — the world's oldest food regulation still in force. The Bavarian beer tradition encompasses: Hefeweizen/Weissbier (wheat beer, yeast-cloudy, banana-clove character — Schneider Weisse, Weihenstephan, Paulaner, Erdinger); Märzen/Oktoberfest (amber lager, traditionally brewed in March and lager-stored until autumn — the Oktoberfest style); Dunkel (dark lager); Bock and Doppelbock (strong lager — Paulaner Salvator, Ayinger Celebrator); Rauchbier (smoked malt, Bamberg — Schlenkerla Aecht Schlenkerla Märzen is the world's most distinctive beer). The Bavarian brauerei tradition is UNESCO-listed Intangible Cultural Heritage.
