Auxey-Duresses AOC

Auxey-Duresses AOC sits in a side valley west of Meursault in the Côte de Beaune, producing both red and white wines of genuine quality at significantly lower prices than the famous communal appellations immediately to the east. The village's nine Premier Cru vineyards are divided between the valley's two slopes: the eastern orientation (Les Duresses, Les Écussaux) produces white Chardonnay of excellent mineral character; the western orientation focuses on Pinot Noir of firm, earthy character with cherry and iron notes. Auxey-Duresses benefits directly from wine made by Meursault and Monthélie growers who also farm here, giving consumers access to great names at more modest prices. The appellation is increasingly recognised as one of Burgundy's most rewarding value destinations for both white and red.
