Fleurie AOC

Fleurie is one of the most elegant of Beaujolais's ten Crus, located on the granite hillsides north of Chiroubles, and is often called 'the queen of Beaujolais' for its exceptional floral perfume — violet, rose, peony — allied to silky tannins and the characteristic Gamay freshness of the Cru zone. The soils are composed of decomposed pink granite with a thin topsoil that forces deep root penetration, producing wines of uncommon depth and aromatic complexity for the variety. Fleurie is the most aromatic and immediately seductive of the northern Beaujolais Crus, producing wines that can be enjoyed young but also develop a Pinot Noir-like complexity across five to ten years. Fleurie's most celebrated single-vineyard sites include La Madone, La Roilette and Grille-Midi.
