Monthélie AOC

Monthélie AOC is a small, often-overlooked Côte de Beaune appellation nestled between Volnay and Meursault — two of Burgundy's most prestigious addresses. The hillside vineyards produce predominantly red wines from Pinot Noir, with eleven Premier Cru sites on the slopes descending from the village above the valley floor. The style is rustic and mineral compared to Volnay's silk, with firmer tannins and darker fruit, but Monthélie offers some of Burgundy's finest value for authentic Côte de Beaune Pinot Noir. The best producers — Suremain, Douhairet — consistently produce wines that punch well above their classification's modest commercial profile.
