Italy — wine

Barbaresco DOCG

'Queen of Italian Wines.' Nebbiolo from Barbaresco, Neive, and Treiso northeast of Alba. More elegant and earlier-maturing than Barolo — slightly warmer mesoclimate, more sandstone in soils. Gaja's single-vineyard wines (Sorì Tildìn, Sorì San Lorenzo, Costa Russi) brought Barbaresco to international prominence. Produttori del Barbaresco (cooperative) produces terroir-transparent benchmark wines at half Gaja's price. Bruno Giacosa's Riserva (red label) is the most sought-after Barbaresco. BC importer for Gaja: Select Wine Merchants [NEEDS VERIFICATION].
