Cowichan Valley

The valley floor and gentle slopes surrounding the town of Duncan on Vancouver Island's east coast, sheltered from Pacific weather by the island's central ridge. The driest and warmest part of the island, with Garry oak ecosystems indicating the Mediterranean-leaning microclimate. Pinot noir achieves real complexity on well-drained sites; pinot gris, bacchus, and ortega provide consistent, aromatic whites. The valley is also BC's serious cider-producing heartland, with heritage apple orchards predating wine by decades.
