Spain — wine

Ribera del Duero

Spain's most celebrated and powerful red wine DO — the Duero River valley on the Castilian meseta at 850m elevation, producing Tempranillo (locally called Tinto Fino or Tinta del País) of extraordinary concentration, structure, and aging potential. The extreme continental climate — sub-zero winters, scorching summers, dramatic diurnal temperature variation of 20°C+ — stresses the vines and concentrates flavour to levels unmatched anywhere in Spain. Ribera del Duero's greatest wines — Vega Sicilia Único and Pingus — are among the most expensive and sought-after wines on earth.
