Moldova's largest and most established wine PDO, covering the central forest-steppe hills of the country. Codru produces wines from both international varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay) and Eastern European varieties (Feteasca Neagra, Feteasca Alba, Rara Neagra). The region includes the legendary Purcari winery, whose Negru de Purcari was famously served at British royal events and is considered one of Eastern Europe's most historically significant wines.
