Brazil — wine

Serra Gaucha

Brazil's most important wine-producing region, in the highlands of Rio Grande do Sul near the border with Argentina and Uruguay. Serra Gaucha sits at 600-900m altitude with a temperate climate shaped by Italian immigrant winemakers who arrived in the 1870s. The region produces sparkling wines of genuine quality alongside still wines from both Italian varieties (Moscato Bianco, Prosecco/Glera) and international grapes. The Brazilian sparkling wine industry — led by sparkling wine specialists in the Vale dos Vinhedos — is the most internationally recognised aspect of Serra Gaucha production.
