Southern Burgundy's most celebrated white wine appellation, Pouilly-Fuissé produces Chardonnay from the dramatic limestone cliffs and gentle slopes around the four communes of Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly, Vergisson and Chaintré in the Mâconnais. The volcanic and limestone soils, southern exposure and maritime influence create Chardonnay of significant weight, mineral complexity and the capacity to age — stylistically between Côte de Beaune Chardonnay and richer Mâcon, now elevated by a new Premier Cru classification (2020) recognising the finest vineyard sites.
