Montepulciano d'Abruzzo produces vibrant, fruit-forward reds from the Montepulciano grape along the Adriatic coast and interior hills of Abruzzo. The variety (distinct from the Tuscan town of Montepulciano) produces deeply coloured wines with soft tannins, ripe dark cherry, chocolate, and herbs — one of Italy's most food-friendly and value-driven red DOCs. The Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is a celebrated deeply coloured rosé from the same grape.
