Nebbiolo's most elegant expression — a small DOCG of 800 hectares on the right bank of the Tanaro River producing wines of extraordinary finesse and complexity. Barbaresco is often counterposed with Barolo: both made from Nebbiolo, but Barbaresco's calcareous Tortonian marl soils and slightly warmer microclimate produce wines that open earlier and show greater floral delicacy. The finest sites — Asili, Rabajà, Martinenga, Gallina — produce wines of world-class complexity.
